Yangtze Memory Technologies Co (YMTC), China's leading flash memory chipmaker, is venturing into DRAM production, targeting advanced chips for AI applications. The MOVE comes as the U.S. tightens export controls on high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a critical component for AI chipsets.

The state-backed firm established a new entity with 20.7 billion yuan ($2.9 billion) in registered capital, majority-owned by YMTC. The venture will cover the full integrated circuit supply chain, though product specifics remain undisclosed.

Industry analysts suggest YMTC is collaborating with ChangXin Memory Technology (CXMT) on HBM development, signaling China's push for self-sufficiency in advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
